Victoria Hotspurs gained a point from their match of the fourteenth
day of the championship against SK Victoria Wanderers. The derby
match was well contested as the two sides needed the three points at
stake for different ambitions. The Wanderers had to play for more
than an hour of the encounter with a player less on the field as
Simon Gatt was sent off for a foul on John Paul Grima on 26
minutes. Overall the final score was just. The Wanderers had good
scoring opportunities during the first period through Joseph Vella
and Chris Sciortino while the Hotspurs went closest in the final
stages of the first half when a strike by John Paul Grima hit the
post. The Hotspur saw more of the ball after the break but the
Wanderers were dangerous in fast breaks. In the dying seconds
goalie Adrian Parnis denied the Hotspurs from winning the match with
a fine intervention on Uchenna Anyanwu.

Contenders for the title Ghajnsielem suffered an unexpected 2-0
defeat in their match from the thirteenth day of the championship
against Sannat Lions. Sannat had an excellent start and took an
early lead through Errol Grima. Ghajnsielem’s reaction was sterile
although they put pressure on their opponents until the end of the
first half. Sannat came out in a better shape after the break while
Ghajnsielem found it extremely difficult to test Sannat’s goalie
Paul Galea. Sannat sealed the issue six minutes from time with a
second goal scored by John camilleri.

In
the matches from the Second Division challengers for promotion
Xaghra United suffered a surprising defeat in their match against
Zebbug Rovers. Zebbug scored the decisive goal on after 12 minutes
of play. Xaghra had a reaction but were erratic in front of
Zebbug’s goal. On the other hand Zebbug created dangerous fast
break and could have made sure of the points at an earlier stage of
the encounter. In the other match from the same category Oratory
Youths registered a 4-0 win over bottom placed Gharb rangers.
Oratory did not make any particular effort to win the points which
puts them on third place together with Munxar Falcons and Zebbug
Rovers. Andrew Zammit opened the score ten minutes from half time
and made sure of the win with three goals scored during the second
period through a brace by Dione Lautier and a goal by Francesco Cini.
